The makers of Zofran ®, are facing lawsuits across the county.

The makers of Zofran ®, are facing lawsuits across the county. The lawsuits claim that the makers of Zofran ® unlawfully promoted its anti-nausea drug as a morning sickness treatment. They also claim that the makers of Zofran ® concealed mounting evidence of Zofran’s ® association with increased birth defect risks for more than two decades.

GlaxoSmithKline never studied Zorfan's effects in pregnant women

Plaintiffs also allege that the makers of Zofran ®, paid doctors to induce them to prescribe Zofran® and distributed false information about the safety of Zofran® in pregnant women. It is their position that Zofran® has never been approved for use during pregnancy. In fact they claim, GlaxoSmithKline has never even studied the drug’s effects in pregnant women, or those it may have on fetal development. The lawsuits also cite three large epidemiological studies, conducted between 2013 and 2014, that all produced data suggesting a link between Zofran® and major birth defects.

Some of those birth defects include:

  • Heart defects including Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) commonly known as a “hole in the heart”
  • Cleft Palate
  • Cleft Lip
  • Kidney Malformation
  • Club Foot
